As he tracks them down and gets closer to the girl he finds more than just drugs, but an entire black market organ trade with So-mi as one of the next victims. He finds himself in police custody after the mother’s body, naked and hollowed out, was discovered in the trunk of the car the dealers gave him. He makes a deal with the dealers for the girl and her mother, and gets betrayed again having been sent to incriminate himself and a rival dealer.

The enforcer of the group arrives to kill the big guy and leaves a phone for CHA before walking out with the drugs and then takes off with the girl and her mother anyway. The boss, sitting safely in the car, tells him to hand over the bag or he’ll kill the mother and daughter, so he does. We first get a glimpse of who he is when he relieves one of the dealers of his knife in a strike as swift as a snake-bite, then neutralizes the other man who is easily twice his size. When the dealers catch up with her they torture her for the info and then find themselves inside the pawnshop as CHA returns home. She hides the drugs by discretely placing them in a camera bag which she sells to the pawnshop owned by CHA. So-mi’s mother, and exotic dancer and heroin addict, decides to rip off a pretty large score from dealers with no scruples. Their somewhat odd relationship becomes clear pretty quickly as the film picks up its pace after about 20 minutes where it grabs hold and doesn’t let go. The story starts off slow while trying to establish the relationship between the two characters (the man and the girl) and provide enough background, and emotion, which inspires the majority of the events in the story. In the spirit of Man on Fire and Taken, this story follows a pawnshop owner named CHA Tae-shik, formerly ex-special forces operative specializing in combat and foreign operations, who lives next door to a troubled and lonely girl, So-mi, and her mother. Language: Korean (original), with English dub and subtitles I have a combination of Korean, Japanese, and British films that I recently saw for the first time and enjoyed so thoroughly that I want to spread the word so others may experience them as well. While I’d love to write reviews for them, and I just might simply to put more of my writing up, I’m going to focus today on a few foreign films that are not as well known. Recently I watched The Mechanic, Pitch Black (with commentaries), The King’s Speech (never saw it in theaters), and From Paris with Love most of which are well known and were well received. I hope to have 3-5 film reviews going up sometime in the next week, but I’m hoping the titles will be obscure to most people. Like my game reviews I won’t be giving a numerical score, I’ll just address what I liked, what I didn’t, and how I felt when it ended (assuming I was able to watch it to the end.)

I don’t know how in-depth into them I’ll go, I just want to give my impressions of the overall quality. I’ve wanted to start branching out this blog to cover more than just games and while I have a few other reviews for books and films scattered around the blog, I thought I’d add a few more.
